Former Sumo grand champion Akebono told the Japanese media that he would like a no rules streetfight matchup against Musashi on March 27th. His reasoning to the media was that he would be able to use his sumo slaps under these rules.

Sources in Las Vegas report that the rematch of Phil Baroni vs. Evan Tanner has been signed as of yesterday, and that it will most likely take place at UFC 48 on July 3rd.

IGNASHOV GAINING MOMENTUM IN JAPAN

The Japanese media report that K-1 is now starting to bill Alexey Ignashov as the new 'pro-wrestling killer', after Ignashov hurt both Shinsuke Nakamura and Steve Williams in his fights against them.

Inside sources in the Japanese media tell us that the plan is to set up an Alexey Ignashov vs. Kazuyuki Fujita matchup for a future K-1 MMA show.

PRIDE TALKING TO LEWIS

Japanese newssite Sportsnavi reported two weeks back that PRIDE has had some preliminary talks with heavyweight boxing champ Lennox Lewis.

The word from the Japanese media today is that PRIDE is now in serious negotiations with Lewis. Under the proposed deal, Lewis would do standup-only bout.

Fightsport.com first reported two weeks back that a possible opponent for Lewis would be Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic, and the Japanese media have confirmed this as well.
