STATION CASINOS UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Fertitta brothers, controlling shareholders of Station Casino's and owners of the UFC

Review Journal has reported the following;

The investigation into Station Casinos 2003 failure to file anti-money laundering reports with the federal government shifted into second gear last week. The discovery that the company had not filed all the necessary reports that are used to track large cash transactions launched an internal audit last April. After nearly a year, the audit has been given to the state Gaming Control Board so the agency's independent investigation could start. No word yet on when it may finish or become public. The fine for failing to submit the reports is as much as $25,000 per count.

UFC JAPAN IS OFF!

Dana White, President of ZUFFA

FS 24-7 just received this release regarding the UFC 51 show scheduled for December.

ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES POSTPONEMENT OF DECEMBER FIGHT CARD IN JAPAN

Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir Injured In Auto Accident

LAS VEGAS, NEV., September 23, 2004 Officials of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's brand of mixed martial arts today announced the postponement of its December fight card scheduled for Tokyo, Japan. A Japan fight card will be re-scheduled for a later date that will be determined. UFC's Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir (8-1-0 in mixed martial arts) from Las Vegas, Nev., was scheduled to defend his title in the main event against top contender Andre Arlovski (8-3-0) from Minsk, Belarus. Mir recently sustained a broken left leg in an auto accident in Las Vegas and will be sidelined indefinitely. "Zuffa has every intent to go to Japan and the December date looked very good until Frank's unfortunate accident," said Zuffa/UFC president Dana White. "Our number one concern is Frank's health. He's strong and had fought really well in his last three fights. He was lucky and will fully recover, but will not be ready by December."

(Editors note: I do not accept this reason as the true reason for cancelling the Japan show. I have to wonder if ZUFFA have pulled a dick tuck as the daunting prospect of a Japanese MMA show loomed closer)

ATKINS INSIDER - LATEST ON UFC

Dana White will make fights for young up and coming Heavyweights.

By Todd Atkins

Just a few tidbits..

Tito Ortiz

This next show could impact Tito's wallet seriously in one way or another. When he renegotiated his last deal his management was adamant about a clause that pays him more if PPV buys are over a certain amount. They are confident that he is the major draw for UFC and they wanted a contract that rewarded him if UFC gets big PPV #'s. Randy Couture also has a similar contract.

Couture and Lindland

Speaking of Couture, he is using his influence as UFC LHW Champion to get Matt Lindland back in UFC. Lindland currently does not have a contract with UFC at the moment but expect UFC to use him down the road as Randy continues to pressure them. He won't make the money he used to but he most likely will fight for UFC under one fight deals from now on.

Frank Trigg

You may have noticed that Frank Trigg is everywhere. Doing a radio show, at an NFL camp, commentating on NHB shows, developing a clothing line, working as a bodyguard for "high value" targets and other things. From what I hear from a guy that trains at the gym in LA is that Trigg has been everywhere except working out and training. He has been seen very little at the gym. Speculation is that he may be working out elsewhere.

BJ Penn vs ZUFFA

Look for some legal decision soon on the BJ Penn vs Zuffa case. Specifically on the issue of UFC having a title fight in the next show. Zuffa has told the camps of Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre that the fight will go on regardless of the decision. It is all in the matter of if the fight is an official "title fight". ZUFFA is very confident, almost overly that they will prevail.

170lbs Division

UFC is running the risk of having Matt Hughes and Charuto Verissimo winning, and thus having to create a rematch. Most think that these two guys are the class of the division by far. The question is who wants to see another match with both of them fighting each other? Both Hughes and Verissimo will be substantial favorites in their upcoming fights.

HW Division

Outlook for the HW division is currently a mess with Frank Mir getting in that motorcycle accident. Dana White wants to now use this opportunity to make some spots for up and comers that will fight cheap and try to impress. There are some questions on when Tim Sylvia will be ready, but from what I am told Sylvia has done everything right since his surgeries. He has done everything possible to get his cardio up, and he has worked very, very hard to rehabilitate. Look for him to fight in the first show after the New Year.
